CONCEPT
Most music of the Western world uses chromatic scales. Jazz music is western music. Jazz uses chromatic notes as something characteristic of the style. Chromaticism is very common in the improvisations of jazz masters. In jazz theory these scales are sometimes called Bebop scales.
BEBOP SCALE
The Major Bebop Scale adds a chromaticism between the fifth and sixth notes of a Major Scale.

The Dominant Bebop Scale adds a chromaticism between the seventh and eight notes of a Dominant Scale.
